Alpha Court provides permanent housing in apartment settings to those individuals with a mental illness.  One and two bedroom units are available,  Rents are geared to income.

 

  • Our goal is to assist consumers to maintain safe, affordable housing and develop a lifestyle conducive to independent living.
  • Criteria - Client for the one bedroom units must be supported by Alpha Court staff for at least 6 months prior to acceptance and they must qualify as a Rent Geared to Income (RGI) tenant.
  • As the landlord, the Alpha Court Director of Property Management develops a relationship with the Support Worker and the Consumer, to help the client maintain their housing in our apartment buildings at 1500 Dease Street and 1241 Jasper Drive.
  • The two-bedroom units available to those in the community are geared to income.

 

To Access Alpha Court Housing:

 

Alpha Court has a 3 storey apartment building at 1500 Dease Street and a 4 storey apartment building at 1241 Jasper Drive.

 

The one bedroom units at both buildings are allocated to individuals with a serious mental illness and to qualify for a unit you must be a supported client of Alpha Court for at least 6 months.

  • The Support Worker and/or client will submit a completed Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (RGI) Application to the Alpha Court Director of Property Management who will then meet with the support worker's Supervisor to discuss the clients’ needs and the wait list.
  • If the applicant owes arrears to previous landlords, payment schedule must be arranged with this landlord and the tenant must provide a copy to the Alpha Court Director of Property Management.
  • The two bedroom units in both buildings are community based and apply to anyone requiring a two bedroom unit. To qualify for a two bedroom unit, you must be eligible for rent-geared-to-income unit and your family composition would be any of the following:

-  A couple with a child, parent with a child, a couple with Doctor’s letter stating they require separate bedrooms for health

   reasons

 

Alpha Court Rent Supplement Program

 

To Access Homelessness Initiative Housing (HIPII):

 

An individual is eligible for service through an intake process.

  • Once the client is accepted into the Homelessness Initiative program, the Support Worker submits a copy of the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (RGI) Application to the Alpha Court Director of Property Management and within 6 months a complete application to Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) Office at 34 N. Cumberland Street.
  • The client is put on the Central Housing Registry wait list as Homelessness Initiative housing is not long term housing.
  • If the applicant owes arrears to any previous landlords, a payment schedule must be arranged with this Landlord and the tenant must provide a copy to the Alpha Court Director of Property Management.
  • A prerequisite to receiving HIPII housing, the Case Manager updates the Alpha Court Director of Property Management as to the client’s capability to live independently with HIP support.

 

To Access Addiction Supportive Housing (ASH):

 

An individual is eligible for service through an intake process.

  • Once the client is accepted into the Addiction Supportive Housing program, the Support Worker submits a copy of the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (RGI) Application to the Alpha Court Director of Property Management and within 6 months a complete application to Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) Office at 34 N. Cumberland Street.
  • The client is put on the Central Housing Registry wait list as Addiction Supportive Housing is not long term housing.
  • If the applicant owes arrears to any previous landlords, a payment schedule must be arranged with this Landlord and the tenant must provide a copy to the Alpha Court Director of Property Management.
  • A prerequisite to receiving HIPII housing, the Case Manager updates the Alpha Court Director of Property Management as to the client’s capability to live independently with ASH support.
