Program Description 

 

The Alpha Court Community Mental Health Program is a voluntary rehabilitation service provided at no charge to help people with serious mental illnesses to maximize their functioning in the community.
 

Services offered by the program include:

  • Assessment
  • Supportive counselling
  • Individualized planning
  • Direct service provision (i.e. life skills teaching, budgeting assistance)
  • Supported housing
  • Coordination of services and support
  • Advocacy
  • Youth worker services
  • Educational/vocational support
  • Outreach

Admissions Criteria

  • Primary diagnosis is a serious mental illness, defined according to diagnosis, duration and disability
  • 16 years of age and over
  • A resident of Thunder Bay
  • A need for assistance, support and skills teaching in order to live successfully in the community

Exclusion may be deemed necessary due to one or a combination of the following:

  • Primary diagnosis is one of substance abuse or developmental challenge
  • Organic brain syndrome
  • Involved in similar program
  • Unwilling to participate
  • Repetitive history of violent or abusive behaviour
